I always recommend ExpatChild
Having moved internationally seven time I know how amazing, fascinating… and overwhelming, and isolating it can be. I meet a lot of people who are in the process of moving or have recently arrived in their new country and I always turn them on to Carole and ExpatChild.com
Carole has lots of practical info around moves and school selection, but also on some of the subtler “soft issues”: making friends, moving to another country with kids, having babies in a different culture.
I especially love ExpatChild’s moving journal (moving countries, not moving to tears, but sometimes there’s some overlap) - which helps plan out the details and control the overwhelm. Super resource for everyone trying to get their head around the zillions of details!
As an expat for eight years, I have often used Carole's site both for help and advice and as a forum to chat about all things expat. It is helpful to talk with others who have country specific advice, but there are also lots of topics on which is helpful to get expat views which are similar across countries and continents. I have discussed subjects such as family breakup and repatriation with others on the site, and have also shared my own experiences as a teacher at an international school to assist with questions on expat life and education.
Carole also has a wide range of interests and shares sources and articles on a regular basis. These are then helpful signposts to further resources of help to any expat.

Currently there are video presentations, PDF downloads of the slides used, and an MP3 version you can listen to. Additional tools and information are provided by means of PDF downloads, customisable organisation apps, and ebooks.
Links to relevant articles on ExpatChild are provided too, so you don't have to search for additional information on a specific topic.
I have many plans for the future, including live webinars, Facebook Lives, videos of me (eek!), a YouTube channel, podcasts and I have at least one more book in the pipeline. Phew!
I will run regular Q&A sessions where you can pre-submit your questions to me, or even ask them live. Also planned are regular webinar discussions. As well as that, there is also a members-only community where you can you ask questions and get advice and support from other people on the same journey.
New information is added regularly so you'll never be short of something new to discover. I have a lot of information ready to share, just not quite enough hours in a day to get it all there in one go. If there's something you'd like me to cover that isn't there already, just let me know and I'll see what I can do.
If you know you're moving overseas, time is of the essence! There will be a deadline - your departure. You have a LOT to do, much to think about and a huge amount of preparation before you arrive in your new home. So let's streamline your time together.
Once you're in your new country you'll also encounter unexpected obstacles you may not have considered before you left. Why not get a heads-up on some of them before you leave so you can step into expat life with a clear vision?
You need to take action now to make the most of the new life you're heading towards.
Completely secure! I feel very strongly about keeping your contact details away from 'others' and will never pass your information on. The Expatability Club is all GDPR compliant too.
All payments are dealt with offsite with reputable and extremely secure payment gateways. No financial information is available to me.
Congratulations! I hope you're settling in well. Even so, you may well come up against some unexpected and unique-to-expat-life obstacles and emotions. In Expatability you will find a series of guidance videos to help you with all kinds of aspects of expat life.
Also, you'll find it incredibly helpful to discuss matters with other people who know how you're feeling right now. This is where the Expatability Club is so helpful, with its community of friendly, helpful members.
Each relocation is different. Each person is different. Each stage of your life is different. This is something I feel passionate about and understand that no relocation journey is the same for everyone. Some people love a certain country, others can't find happiness there at all. And once you add children into the mix, you'll discover whole swathes of expat life you hadn't considered before!
Even if you've lived overseas before, that particular time in your life may have been very different to your life now. I'm sure there is something new to be discovered in Expatability. And perhaps you will be able to help and advise others who haven't had your experiences.
There is indeed a huge amount of information 'out there'. And this is where many problems begin. There can be just too much information available, which then becomes incredibly overwhelming. Because there is so much information around it can be difficult to find the details relevant to you right now.
Often the information is biased by whoever wrote it. Not everyone has the same life experience and neither should anyone expect to feel the same as everyone else.
Another problem is that you don't always know what you need to know! Expatability solves this problem for you, by sharing insight into the little things and big things that can make all the difference to a successful expat life.
I’ve gathered the best resources about moving overseas together into one place so you can find what you need to know, saving your precious time and energy which is better focused on your actual move.
I wish I could guarantee everyone would have an amazing life, but as we all know, that isn't possible!
What I do with the Expatability Club is provide you with information, insight and insider tips so you don't stumble into any nasty surprises. Too many people go into expat life with the expectation that the grass is always greener. It isn't, it's just different grass...
Sorry, no! That is down to you. There are too many variables for me to be able to offer that service.
Most is available straightaway. And of course, more information will be added regularly. I know how overwhelmingly busy you will be as you prepare to move overseas, so I don't believe in making you wait for the information you need.
The only exception to this is the 30 day Prepare to Move program where guidance will be released daily from the date you join. The reason for this is to prevent you being inundated with information and to give you time to absorb it all.
There is a mix of video training and documents included inside the Expatability Club. Normally, you will be able to download some documents and audio recordings of the course, but not the videos.
Not at all! In fact, I hope you will choose to stick around and share your knowledge and experience with others in our community. Also, you may move again...
Please use the form on the Contact Me page or email me at email@example.com
I always respond as soon as I can. But please remember there may be time differences in place, depending on where in the world you are. Also, please take into consideration that it is just me running this site, plus ExpatChild.com and all the other things in life a mother has to keep on top of!
Obviously I would rather you stayed forever, but I do understand that's not necessarily practical. It is very simple to cancel your subscription and you don't even have to contact me to do so. Simply log in and go to your account page. Your options are under 'Subscriptions' in the menu there.
It may be that you're very busy with your new life and will want to revisit Expatability in the future when your life changes. Therefore, I've made it possible for you to 'Pause' your subscription so you can easily return later without re-registering. Again, this option is in your Account area.
I have got to be honest and upfront, it's in my nature and I don't want you signing up for something that you won't find here.
It’s important that you know right now that I’m not a professional coach or a counsellor. There are no letters after my name. I was educated in the School of Hard Knocks and the University of Life. My attitude is instinctive and caring.
Advising and teaching is something that comes naturally to me and both have been strong features my careers in the past, along with problem solving. But I do not call myself a coach or a counsellor. If you need traditional mindset coaching, cross-cultural training, transitional counselling or any combination of those words, you may be better off elsewhere.
If you want an instinctive, genuine, practical approach, with someone who can give you real life insights – warts and all – on all things expat (and life), please join me in The Expatability Club.
Also, following some recent questions, I also need to state in advance that I don't have individual country guides and insider information on where the best place to buy a home in specific cities. I'd love to help you find the nicest block in Singapore, for example, but I can't. I may have lived a lot of life but I haven't had chance to live everywhere in the world!
However, you never know what may transpire in The Expatability Club in the future, and there may well be other members who can help you out. But it's not a service I can offer right now.
